The piano bar, or cafe music, is the discipline of the pianist consisting of playing in places other than concert halls strictly speaking: hotels, restaurants, clubs... The piano bar was born with Scott Joplin, and the repertoire essentially revolves around jazz, but can also drift towards French variety or include more academic music. Unlike the classical concert, the piano bar requires great endurance as well as a sense of improvisation depending on the place and the atmosphere. The pianist can also perform in jazz concerts including her cafe music repertoire.
